Since 1999, when Alan formed The Accounting Place, he has saved small business owners literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in income taxes through his savvy interpretations of the tax laws.
He's helped countless individuals and business owners structure, operate and organize their financial affairs to their best overall advantage.
With over 40 years of experience in taxation and financial services industries, Alan has developed a unique ability to translate taxation language into plain English.
He never hesitates to dig deeper and ask for clarification and interpretations from Canada Revenue Agency, or challenge their position.
Shawn Rowell, PBA, DFA-Tax Services Specialist
President
Shawn began his career with The Accounting Place in 2006. In 2007 he obtained his Distinguished Financial Advisor (DFA-Tax Services Specialist) designation with honours through The Knowledge Bureau.
His attention to detail and exceptional analytical skills ensures that each client receives clear, concise, tax efficient advice that is tailored to each individual’s situation for both Corporate and Personal tax scenarios.
He enjoys not only playing hockey for recreation but he is also an avid Montreal Canadiens fan, causing him much teasing around the Leaf fan base situated in the office.
Allison Loureiro, RWM, DFA-Tax Services Specialist, ACS, ALHC
Personal Taxation
Allison started her career with The Accounting Place in 2003. Her main focus is on the personal tax issues of our clientele. Allison prides herself in attentively listening to our client’s needs and providing invaluable advice. Her strong customer service skills, when paired with her knowledge of the Income Tax Act, will ensure that anyone who walks into our office will receive courteous assistance with their financial affairs.
In 2006, Allison earned the Distinguished Financial Advisor (Tax Services Specialist) designation with honours from The Knowledge Bureau. Allison stays up to date on the latest changes to the Income Tax Act by attending several tax workshops and conferences each year.
Melissa Schaeffer, RWM, DFA-Tax Services Specialist
Accounting and Taxation
Melissa joined the Accounting Place in July of 2016 after graduating from Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology with an Honours Diploma in Executive Office Administration. Melissa attained both her RWM and DFA-Tax Services Specialist designations in January 2019.
Melissa is beginning her career in financial services, bringing with her 5 years of experience in the service industry. She has strong interpersonal skills and understands the importance of customer service and satisfaction.
Melissa is a strong supporter of the Hamilton Tiger Cats and spends her spare time with friends and family in a number of outdoor activities including, canoeing, quadding and farming.
Jeet Kumar, RWM, MFA-Business Services Specialist

Jeet joined The Accounting Place in February of 2018. He is a 2009 McMaster University Alumni, graduating from The DeGroote School of Business with an Honours degree in Accounting and Economics.
Jeet brings with him has over 5 years experience in the Accounting / Finance Industry. His comprehensive knowledge of the Income Tax Act and understanding of what it takes to achieve your personal and business goals makes him a reliable partner who will help you plan, develop and execute on both your personal and business tax needs.
Jeet is always open to talking business. Whether it is personal or business finance, debt management or investments, he always has an opinion. Jeet is also proud supporter of the Toronto Raptors, Lets Go Raptors!!!
Mike Rowell, RWM, DMA-Tax Services Specialist
Personal Taxation
Mike joined The Accounting Place in 2019 bringing years of experience in numerous fields and industries. He takes pride in assisting clients with their personal taxation needs while communicating the intricacies of the Income Tax Act in an easy-to-understand manner.
Mike aspires to continue his personal development, to gain knowledge and increase his skills within the taxation and financial landscapes. He recently obtained two designations from The Knowledge Bureau – RWM – Real Wealth Manager and DMA – Tax Services Specialist. He strives to stay up to date with the constant updates to the Income Tax Act.
In Mike’s spare time, enjoys playing bass in an award-winning blues band. He is also a die-hard Buffalo Sabres fan and plays hockey in a local recreational hockey league.
Radhika Trivedi
Accounting Technician
Radhika joined The Accounting Place as an Accounting Technician in July 2023, bringing with her various practical skills in Customer Service, Bookkeeping, Accounting, Corporate Law and Stock Market Regulations. Radhika’s attention to detail and ability to communicate and assist our clients in their accounting needs results in a better understanding of the effects on their business success.
Radhika’s is passionate about ensuring client records are accurate and audit-proof as she works to ensure each client is well looked after.
Sarah Stragapede
Client Support Representative
Sarah joined The Accounting Place for her co-op position in February 2023. She currently studies at Mohawk College, graduating in April of 2025 with a diploma in Business Accounting.
Sarah is an enthusiastic and hardworking individual with a knack for numbers. Her attention to detail, and positive attitude help her excel at anything she sets her mind to. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys baking with an emphasis on cakes and Italian desserts.
After years of working and developing herself in the culinary industry, Sarah decided to shift her focus to the managerial side of business, deciding in 2021 to enroll in the Business Accounting program at Mohawk College while working as a pastry chef and Mathematics tutor for Mohawk College.
